Culture fit is still one of the top criteria for a hiring manager. Regardless if the company has adopted 100% home working or not. With more of the world adopting a flexible approach to working it’s more important than ever to focus on culture fit in an interview. For both you and the hiring manager.
As we all spend more time away from the office, how we now spend time with our colleagues has changed. So you may think that culture fit is less important than before. That’s not the case. Companies that hire for culture fit will see improved retention, but what does this mean for you? You are more likely to stay in the job for longer, be more engaged and generally happier in your work.
But how do you demonstrate culture fit in an interview? Especially if it’s a video interview. Here’s our top tips to help in your next interview for your dream 3D print, print management or 3D software job –
Before you do anything, you need to do your homework and find out all you can about the current culture. Not sure how to do this? Here’s some ideas.
Take a look at the company social media channels. What do they tell you anything about the office and the people? Are there clues to what they value and what the culture actually looks like?
Take a look at the company careers site. Some companies will go beyond simply posting live jobs and will give a real feel to what it’s like to work with them.
You can take a look at company reviews too. Glassdoor has unedited reviews for most companies. But don’t let the odd poor review put you off – unless of course they are all you can see!
And finally, it’s worth checking Google reviews. This will tell you a lot about how a company treats its customers. Does the culture filter through to delivery?
Now that you have a better idea of the company values, working environment and more, you’ll want to think carefully about how this matches you own. Does the company offer an environment in which you will thrive? Will it suit your working style? These are all really important things to consider when interviewing. Don’t assume that all companies within 3D or print have the same culture.
Culture extends outside the office too. For you to be truly happy and fulfilled in a job in 3D print, or print management, the key is that you share values. Does the company ‘give something back’? Will your projects deliver things for the greater good? Particularly within 3D print, the advances in technology and applications means that there’s some really ground-breaking things happening out there. Find something that you’d like to be a part of.
