A video interview as part of the recruitment process in the 3d print and additive manufacturing sector is nothing new. But, since the pandemic hit and we’ve all been working more flexibly than we were last year a video interview is now an essential step.
Face to face interview are not possible in all cases. And this isn’t only due to social distancing rules. Video interviews are highly effective if you are applying for a remote job as you don’t have to live in the same location as the office. This gives you a greater scope on roles that you can apply for and it also means that the process can be completed a lot quicker than with a face to face interview process.
As more and more companies make use of video interview technology it’s time to learn how to really sell yourself. Let 3ecruit share our vast knowledge and experience and give you some top tips for success.
By now you’ve probably already familiar with the basic set up of a video interview. But, always test your tech beforehand. The key to a successful interview is to be confident and show your true self. This can be a challenge if you can’t be heard clearly or technical issues distract you from the job in hand – to secure your next 3d print job!
This is the first part of any interview process. Preparation is key if you want to perform at the top of your game.
We advise that you research top interview questions and plan out your answers. Your 3ecruit consultant will be able to help with this. We will also help you to research the company you’ve applied for, along with familiarising yourself with their culture, values and the role you’re interviewing for. We recommend preparing a range of questions to ask throughout your interview. Dress accordingly, even though you’re sitting behind a computer screen. Take your video interview just as serious as any other face to face interview.
The dress code rules for a video interview are exactly the same as they are for a face to face interview. Don’t let the fact that you are at home distract you from presenting a professional version of yourself. Whist many companies have a slightly less formal approach in the current environment, it’s important that you remain professional. Take the lead from the interviewer and get advice from your consultant with regards to the culture and expectations of the interview.
This can be one of the most challenging parts of a video interview. But it can also make a big difference. Eye contact is a really important part of any interview process. It shows that you are listening, are engaged and interested. However, this can be difficult in a video interview as we all tend to look at the screen and not the camera. There are a few things that can help – even as simple as a sticker saying ‘Look Here!’ Other important things to consider is your physical setting – does it create a good impression? Don’t sit too close, or too far away. Our top tip – make sure that there is some empty space above your head and that you head, shoulders and upper chest are visible.
